- home away from home
a slow weekend on the german countryside, with Rahel
What does home feel like to you?
For some, it's a place, for others, a person, a memory, a feeling.
For me, home has never been defined by four walls.
It's the feeling of letting your shoulders soften. Of letting your guard down.
Of taking a deep exhale. Of not having to perform, prove or become anything.
It's the feeling of being held while still having wings to fly.
The version of yourself that appears when nobody is watching.
This retreat series was born from that feeling.
Hosted at the Fondation Kubach-Wilmsen - a place that shaped my childhood and continues to influence the way I experience beauty, creativity and connection - HOME AWAY FROM HOME invites you into a slower rhythm. A space where guards can come down. Where conversations unfold naturally. Where movement, sound, art and nature become gentle pathways back to yourself. Slow mornings. Shared meals. Time outdoors.
Movement among artworks. Soundbaths to find pause. Moments of stillness. A sense of belonging.... Not because you've been here before.
But because something about it feels familiar.
Like returning to a part of yourself that has been waiting patiently all along.
Like coming home.
What to expect:
With only a small number of guests, this retreat is intentionally intimate.
Mornings begin softly with homemade breakfast in Villa Hartmann in Bad Kreuznach, the historic house where you will stay throughout the weekend.
Afterwards, we gather in the Fondation Kubach-Wilmsen, a stone sculpture and architecture museum by japanese architect Tadao Ando, surrounded by nature, silence, and monumental artworks.
Each day includes a movement session led by Rahel (@rahel.kubach): one morning dedicated to Pilates, the other to a grounding Yoga Flow. Both classes are open to all levels, energizing yet gentle, ending softly with meditation and a soundbath.
Within the calm atmosphere of the museum, movement becomes a way to slow down, reconnect, reflect, and unwind from the noise of everyday life. Throughout the weekend, you’ll be invited into the artistic universe of the Kubach family through private museum tours, creative sessions, homemade lunches in the museum, coffee and cake in the garden, and thoughtful details that quietly reveal the spirit of this place.
Afternoons unfold slowly with moments of stillness between sculptures, walks through the surrounding vineyards, and a hike towards the famous Rotenfels cliffs overlooking the Nahe valley.
And in between: barefoot moments on warm stone floors, golden evening light falling through the museum, meaningful conversations, and the beauty of being fully present.
For dinner, we will either gather around a long table within the museum walls or visit some of our favorite nearby restaurants in Bad Kreuznach, ending the evenings with good food, laughter, and the feeling of summer stretching a little longer than usual.

…the creatives and the curious, the ones who feel inspired by art, architecture, nature, beautiful spaces, mindful movement, and nourishing meals shared around long tables with like-minded people.
